Children's Medical Center

After school today we headed to Children's Medical Center to meet up with several other homeschooling families. This week we had put together food baskets for parents of ill children. Just a little something that can give them nutrition without having to leave their child's side. We also took several new board games so that even sick children can continue to play and have fun. We were given an abbreviated tour of the facility but due to infectious disease control we were given minimal contact with ill children.

Today was our church homeschoolers group class day. Ms. Donna taught the Pre-K - 2nd graders about the election process, and registering to vote. I taught the 3rd - 6th graders about caucuses, primaries, the electoral college and all the other fun details that go with this democracy. Donna had the hands on crafts for the younger kids, me I had the laptop with streaming video for the older ones. It's good to see these 'wee'-publicans being raised right!

Busy, busy, busy

.Fall ball has begun. Caleb had his first 2 hour practice today. He has a new coach but Caleb seems really pleased. Following practice we went to Home Depot for their Kid's Workshop. The kids built their own field goals. Jon worked today so they were on their own. Or maybe they're getting older and can read, and operate a Phillips screwdriver on their own.

This afternoon we went out to a Memorial Service for a friend's father. Ms. Kristi and her hubby found her father on Labor Day, when he didn't show up for a family gathering. Ms. Kristi is a fellow homeschool mom, her babies are the kids age. The service was a sweet tribute to her dad. If you're reading this stop and pray for her family, she lost her mom only ten months ago.

Museum of Science and History's Omni Theater

This year in history we are studying ancient Egypt. With that in mind, when I woke up this morning, after staying up late watching the RNC analysis, I was not up for school. We went ahead and completed our math lessons, an then headed to Ft. Worth to the Museum of Science and History's Omni Theater. We watched Mummies: Secerts of the Pharaohs, a great docu-drama with Egyptologists Dr. Bob Brier. It follows the cache of 40 royal mummies, including 12 Kings of Egypt, in a single tomb. Among them were three of the greatest pharaohs that ever lived: the legendary Rameses the Great—considered to be the pharaoh of the Exodus and perhaps the only face the world can see from the Bible—his father Seti I, and his son. The film discused they were doing extensive testing to determine how these Pharaohs died. . . . hmmm, do you think they'll find water in Rameses lungs?

Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History

After the trip to the Omni, we went through the kid's science museum. The kids enjoyed the on-hands activities. The kids especially enjoyed the architecture section. They built 'buildings' on the earthquake table. Abigail enjoyed the magnetic blocks and Caleb was drawn the Lego's. Frankie made animals out of the pipe cleaners.

 

Ride 'Em, Cowgirl

While we were in Ft. Worth, we went ahead and visited the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. It is a sweet dedication to female whose lives exemplify the courage, resilience, and independence that helped shape the American West, and fosters an appreciation of the ideals and spirit of self-reliance they inspire.

Look at all that okra and the size of our zucchini! Our garden is blooming with a lot of peppers, jalapenos, banana peppers, herbs and bushels of okra! These were all grown from Pawpa's seedlings!

Tonight is Sarah Palin's speech! Gotta' love it, she's a hockey mom of five, member of the NRA, presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee and a beauty contestant! May God bless America!

Season Ender

When Ms. Lori was sweet enough to give us tickets to the Rough Rider's game, she gave us tickets for two nights! We enjoyed their last regular season game, before the tournament play begins. The kids had their gloves signed by #31 Jared Hyatt. With the hurricane hitting the coast, tonight was a lot cooler weather!

We found out tonight that Caleb will be playing for the Cardinals during Fall Ball, and their practice is, of course, Wednesday nights! Coach said he totally understood that church is a higher priority, but no one else on the team had a conflict with Wednesday. Looks like Jon and Caleb will be practicing alone during the week! The team will have a 2nd practice on Saturday morning, fortunately!

La, La, La, La, La

For Sissy birthday, Papaw and Mimi sent her karaoke Cd's including, High School Musical I, High School Musical II and Miley Cyrus. My 'performers' sang and choreographed for Jon and I. OK, they all sang. . . . Caleb and mostly Abigail choreographed. Sissy grinned, no choreographing, and she was not happy that I photographed the event!

Boys of Summer

Ms. Lori emailed and asked if we wanted Rough Rider tickets, well duh! Funny thing is Mr. Bryson called later to see if we wanted to join him at the game! Guess our friends know we like baseball! Summer is coming to end, baseball season is almost over, bummer!
