Today our home school group headed to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth for the Dead Sea Scrolls & the Bible: Ancient Artifacts, Timeless Treasures Exhibit. It is said to be one of the most comprehensive exhibitions on the Dead Sea Scrolls to be shown in the Southwestern United States. We were able to view 21 rare scroll fragments, including 12 that have not previously been on public display. Southwestern’s exhibition features fragments from Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, 1 Kings, Nehemiah, the Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joel, Amos, and Jonah.
As a teenager I was blessed to see the Dead Sea and the Qumran caves with my family, so I was very excited to share this with my children. We used several good resources to prepare the kids for the exhibit. The Mystery of the Dead Sea Scrolls is a children's book about an 11 year old boy doing a school project on the Dead Sea Scrolls. We also watched Mysteries of the Dead Sea Scrolls DVD just to give the kids an appreciation for the providential preservation of these amazing works!
