The last several months the food at the pantry has been a little thin, especially with the government shut down holding up the delivery of the prepaid items coming in from the North Texas Food Bank. The good news is many of the public schools have food drives throughout the month of October and that food is beginning to come in to the pantry.
On Monday volunteers from Metro Relief picked up at the area schools. The haul of food was just amazing! In our spare time this week, we worked alongside other volunteers sorting cans of food, and probably only made it through 1/3 of the donations.
Metro is expecting more donations in the coming week. All of the food needs expiration dates checked and sorted by food types so that it can go on the shelves in the coming months. It is truly amazing how the community is better equipped to meet the needs of their own than the federal government!
Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14
