Feeling a Little Saucy!

A couple of weeks ago the girls and I made applesauce.  We started with a small batch to decide if we liked the recipe.   We tweeked the original Pioneer Womans recipe.  This batch we used a darker brown sugar and added a splash of vanilla.

Jon and Abigail peeled and cored fifteen pounds of Fuji apples! We finished out with fourteen pints of applesauce.  It's so yummy, it doesn't even compare to the store bought prepackaged stuff!
Who knew it really is fairly simple to make and it's something we can do together away from a computer, cell phone, or television screen!  The great news is that it is also cost effective, the apples cost $1.29 per 3lb bag, so the total cost was $6.45.  The biggest expense is the jars, which are almost $1 per jar, but if you save them and re-use them, just be sure to use new seals each time.    But the taste!!! YUM!

Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
