I Need a Burrito

In a house with three women, there are times when the boys need to get out.  Jon and Caleb have a code where if there is too much estrogen in the house sometimes the boys need 'a burrito'.  Because sometimes, well, a guy just needs a burrito.  

Today the boys took out after church and had a Whataburger for lunch.  Caleb has been wanting to get a little time in at the archery range with his bow. He knows he can't take the bow to Lubbock, and it's one of his favorite past times.

After that, they took a few toys over to the gun range and did a little target practice. Again, a past time he won't be able to do with his won equipment at school.  

If I say to the boy, ‘Look, the arrows are on this side of you, take them,’
then you are to come, for, as the Lord lives, it is safe for you and there is no danger.

Sunday Shooting

I could spend all day in a museum, or at the opera or symphony, but honestly there are very few kids that feel that way.  My kiddos have grown up with it and tolerate them well enough, but I do like to add in something for them on the days they indulge my artsy side. So today following the Dallas Museum of Art we headed over to the Texas Archery Academy. 

 

If you see the photo in the collage on the lower left corner, that is how I spend time at the range, drinking my mocha latte and reading whatever book I picked up, both from the Half-Price Books store just down the street from the archery range.  Jon always shoots with the kids and they wander to various ranges and shoot. 

 

Today Frankie wanted to teach me how to shoot,  she had so much fun at my inability and her expertise!  Love that girl!

Our mouths were filled with laughter,

Saturday Fun!

Don't you love it when you find a Saturday with nothing on the calendar?  That happens so infrequently that we embraced our precious time together today.  We did have a small commitment this morning at church, but this afternoon we were able to visit Texas Archery Academy.

 

All three children enjoy shooting, Jon even gets in on the action with them.  I am blissfully content to watch the process, plus I mess up my nails!  My favorite part of the day was dinner at Genghis Grill!

Caleb's Birthday

Our baby boy turned sixteen today, time passed so quickly!  The day began with our breakfast in bed tradition, Caleb requested Krispy Kreme donuts and chocolate milk.  Yes, he has a sweet tooth just like his dad! 

 

The day was filled with festivities appropriate for such an auspicious occasion. Caleb's big gift was a left-handed compound bow, complete with plenty of accessories.  Caleb drove out to Texas Archery Academy to shoot some targets. 

 

We rounded off the day much like we started with more sweets! Fortunately his metabolism can support such a diet!  Love my young man and the amazing things he has already accomplished!

 But because my servant Caleb
has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly,
I will bring him into the land he went to,
and his descendants will inherit it.

A Day with Dad

If Jon is in charge of the days activities you can be sure it will include one of three events:  a trip to Extra Innings for batting practice; a trip to Texas Archery Academy; or a trip to Bullet Trap for shooting.

 

In a time where children and guns have become a scary thought, it wasn't that long ago when my Dad would take my brother and I to shoot tin cans at my great-granddaddy's farm. 

 

All three of the kids love shooting bows and arrows, Frankie is by far the best shot.  When it comes to guns Caleb and Abigail both have a healthy respect for guns. 

 

Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the
lowest points of the wall at the exposed places,
posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows.

Homeschooling affords our family to experience a lot of different things that we couldn't normally do in a traditional 8am 3pm school setting.  Today one of those things was archery lessons.  Both kids loved archery at Camp Blue Haven and today they spent some time with other friends at Texas Archery Academy.  They offer archery 101, 201, & 301 class, plus competitive shooting.  Of course mom likes that they do all these things with like minded, Christian, home schooled children, and I spent the afternoon with like minded, Christian, home schooling moms!  

 

The kids shot from various distances and even played games where everyone had a balloon on their target and were to shoot the balloons off of others targets, the winner was the last person who still had a balloon in tact. 

 

The kids have every intention of going back for more!  I think you get a year family membership for $125 and shoot any time, and use their bows and arrows.  It's a great deal for families!
