Fort Worth Symphony at Bass Hall

Bass Performance Hall

Today we ventured out to Fort Worth for the Fort Worth Symphony’s Young Persons’ concert.  This year’s program featured Aaron Copland’s Suite from Appalachian Spring.  Today’s program focused on the process of collaboration between the composer, Aaron Copland; choreographer, Martha Graham; and set designer, Isamu Noguchi to make this performance come alive.

There was a narrator who told the story of the ballet along with the full symphony orchestra.   Before the performance the kids learned the folk song “Simple Gifts”.  To perform along with the orchestra.  As the narrator told the story, image s from the book Ballet for Martha: Making Appalachian Spring were shown on the screen above the orchestra.

One of the great benefits of field trips as homeschoolers is we are not seated on the floor with the masses.  Since we are usually smaller groups we get the benefit of great box seats!  Today’s performance was at Bass Hall and the  box seats had a coat room attached to each box, very posh!   The kids were quite impressed!

That each of them may eat and drink,
and find satisfaction in all their toil
—this is the gift of God.

the Nutcracker Ballet

.
.This weekend we brought in the holiday season with Ben Stevenson’s critically acclaimed production of The Nutcracker. This beloved ballet tells the story of Clara and her magical Nutcracker Prince as they embark on a thrilling adventure. Along the way, they encounter a Christmas tree that grows to 40 feet, toy soldiers battling mischievous mice, waltzing flowers, dancing candy, and sparkling, swirling snowflakes that fall on dancers and the audience alike. Stunning costumes, dazzling sets and remarkable dancing to holiday music by Tchaikovsky make The Nutcracker a favorite family tradition.
.
We've attended the performance at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center when Frankie was little. The last several years we've attended performances at Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. This year with the opening of Winspear Opera House, we were able to enjoy the performance in Dallas! We joined several of our homeschooling friends for a wonderful matinee!

The Nutcracker Ballet

.

.
One of the pleasures of the holiday season is the Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. The building is magnificent and the ballet is always fabulous! This year we were privileged enough to join our homeschool friends on the fifth row, center stage, orchestra section! Abigail sat literally at the edge of her seat through both acts. It was deja vu, watching Abigail delighting at the dancing, because the first year we went was when Frankie was seven. Another sweet little girl, sitting on Daddy's lap, leaning forward taking in all the spectacular entertainment.
