Boys of Summer

.
The Home School Athletic Association has baseball teams for Middle School, Jr. Varsity, & Varsity. They play in a league with other Christian Schools and even participate in the Little League World Series. Anyway, tonight Caleb went to one of the tryouts for the Middle School team. Those boys were huge!!!! Caleb was absolutely the littlest guy out there. He has to attend 3 more tryouts and we will find out in November if he made the team. He held his own with running, catching, hustle etc. He was a little intimidated by those fast balls being pitched by the coach. They were so much faster than what he's seen in the kid-pitch recreational league.

Mummy's humor!

Today we saw the the King Tutankhamun, Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! We had a great time, but the whole time the Steve Martin song was running through my head!

Now when he was a young man,
He never thought he'd see
People stand in line
to see the boy king.

(King Tut) How'd you get so funky?
(funky Tut) Did you do the monkey?
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut).

(king Tut) Now, if I'd known
they'd line up just to see him,
I'd trade in all my money
And bought me a museum. (king Tut)

Buried with a donkey (funky Tut)
He's my favorite honkey!
Born in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia (king Tut)

Dancin' by the Nile, (Disco Tut)
The ladies love his style, (boss Tut)
Rockin' for a mile (rockin' Tut)
He ate a crocodile.

He gave his life for tourism.
Golden idol!
He's an Egyptian
They're sellin' you.

Now, when I die,
now don't think I'm a nut,
don't want no fancy funeral,
Just one like ole king Tut. (king Tut)

He coulda won a Grammy,
Buried in his Jammies,
Born in Arizona,
moved to Babylonia,

He was born in Arizona,
got a condo made of stone-a,King Tut!

Casa Manana's Two Turntables & A Princess

.

.
.
Today we ‘car-schooled’ on our way to Ft. Worth’s Casa Manana Children’s Theater for their quirky version of Sleeping Beauty. It was featured the basic concept of the beautiful princess, the disgruntled fairy, a deep sleep, and a kiss by prince charming. Their new rendition puts an unusual spin on the familiar tale by adding a materialistic land that is inundated with cell phones, lolly-pods and celebrity obsession, and a princess who pricks her finger on a record player needle. We joined several of our homeschooling friends for this fast paced fairy tale.

W W W dot . . . what

One of our local libraries has a series of classes specifically designed for homeschoolers. Today's class was specifically for middle school aged students, teaching research gathering skills. The class was designed for students to learn basic research skills and become familiar with the library’s many resources. Part of the class focused on safe Internet searches. Not quite the 'fun' field trip, but great information. While brother participated in the class, the girls found all kinds of good books. Both girls LOVE reading!

My honey and the puppy!

After Caleb's ball game Jon stretched out on the floor. Padme' came over and practically sat on Jon, then leaned over to make sure she was petted! You would think we never play with the puppy! I have never seen such an affectionate dog. She so big and looks so threatening, however she acts like a cat!

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting

Probably not our most educational field trip, but with our school work completed, it was time to play! We hit the 'dollar (fifty) theater' and saw Kung Fu Panda. Very cute, it's a 'you had the power within you the whole time' kind of movie. Lot's of silliness!

Family Traditions

This month we're preparing communion. The kids are so helpful loading all the cups in the trays. They're not as excited when it is time to empty and clean them out. But that's not my favorite part either. I like preparing it with them, because I remember watching my Grandmother bake communion bread. I wonder how it will change with their children?!

Happy Campers

.
.
We all enjoy camping, ok, ok, 'they' all enjoy camping, that would be everyone but me enjoys camping. We have an 8 man tent that Jon and the kids set up. Padme' guards the entrance and the kids have the back section. They have cots, but they were covered with toys, and board games! Caleb was sleeping in his Anikan Skywalker Halloween costume from last year. I enjoy camping, except for the bugs, dirt, heat, and the part about not sleeping on a fluffy mattress! hmmm . . .

Fall Ball

.
Another game of baseball tonight! Caleb played third base tonight. He also had two at-bats with a single and a walk. Even though this is non-competitive fall ball, we won tonight's game! The girls took the photos above, they like playing with my camera!
